where will you find him poster   FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS

We opened this page to raise some of the questions we were being asked most about the 2006 campaign.

Aren't you promoting alcohol and drinking with the picture of the beer glass?

The intention of the campaign is to start a debate about people’s spiritual encounters and to encourage thinking about Jesus' presence in this broken, fragile and seemingly hopeless world.

The image of Jesus' face in a beer glass is not trying to advocate or encourage drinking. Rather, one of the questions raised by the advert is: where is Jesus in a society where a binge-drinking culture is so dominant?

We're certainly not telling people that Jesus is to be found in drink – or that drinking is totally wrong. However, this Christmas, many people will be in a bar or club, or at a party, and will be swept along and overindulge in alcohol. There is a culture among young people that says the best way to have a good time is to go out and get legless. For many, it's a coping mechanism and a relief from pain or stress. But what happens when the party is over?

It’s often at times like this that questions are asked about the deeper side of life. The campaign is all about encouraging people to think about Jesus at Christmas time, and to look to him for real meaning in their lives.

On the myspace page, why does it say Jesus is a Capricorn?

Star signs are automatically generated on myspace from the member's date of birth (which has to be given). As far as we can see, it's not possible to switch off this feature. Jesus is therefore listed as a Capricorn, based on a 25th December birthday (which admittedly is unlikely to be his genuine birth date, but it's what the church has agreed on for centuries!).

In any case, the wise men who gave Jesus birthday gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh are depicted as astrologers, so maybe it's ok after all to show Jesus' star sign. Discuss!
